Carbohydrate in food
Before I blind you with science, lets establish a fairly obvious piece of information regarding weight or more to the point weight gain.
If your body takes in more calories than it burns off, it gains weight. That’s not rocket science, That’s pretty much on a par with: If you leave your car on a hill with the handbrake off, it’ll roll down the hill. Don’t spend to much time thinking about that last statement folks.
Ok, on to our first revelation.
PART 1
When you eat carbohydrates, they are first broken down and converted to sugar by digestive processes, then absorbed by the intestines and from there the sugar moves into your blood stream
but before the sugar enters general circulation, it first passes through your liver where it converts some of the glucose into two molecules, one molecule is called glycogen, this is a back up form of glucose energy for emergencies and times of increased activity and gets stored in varied amounts in the muscles, liver and brain, a reserve battery if you like. The other molecule is a FAT, molecule, hey presto! Have a quick guess where that fat molecule gets stored?
Give up?…..in your fat cells.
(Makes you stop and think, when they are selling supposed weight loss shakes that contain as much sugar as a bar of chocolate, kind of turns the whole thing on its head a bit don’t it!
